The competition

The competition has four levels: School, Interschool, State and National Championship.


The School and the Interschool levels have the same written rounds and oral rounds.

1. WRITTEN ROUNDS

WORDS IN A WORD :

The student can form as many words as possible using the letters in the given word. Each word should have a minimum of three letters. The number of times a letter is used in a new word should not exceed the number of times the letter appears in the given word.

JUMBLED WORDS AND SENTENCES :

The student has to rearrange the jumbled letters and the words in order to make meaningful and grammatically correct sentences.

BULL'S EYE :

In this puzzle, one letter will occupy the centre slot of the concentric circles. The student has to form words using the letters given in the beginning, across the centre of the circle. The words should have the same number of letters as given in each slot.

WORD MATRIX :

Two types of incomplete matrices will be given. In the first one, the task is to complete the matrix using one letter that would complete all the words. In the second one, the matrix has to be completed by using letters so as to form proper words.

RUSSIAN DOLL :

A Russian Doll is a Doll inside a Doll. Here, in each word, you will find two different words, that is, a word inside another word. The student has to identify both the words using the clues given.

2. ORAL ROUNDS

IDENTIFY THE PARTS OF SPEECH :

A list of words will be given. The student has to identify the part or the parts of speech to which each word belongs.

MIX AND MATCH :

Two columns with five words on one side and six definitions on the other will be given. The student has to match the words with the suitable definitions and also find the missing word which would suit the definition that is unused.

WORD MORPH :

Add or delete one letter from the given word to form a different word. The students are not supposed to use the past tense of the given word.

LISTENING COMPREHENSION :

The student will be made to listen to an audio clipping and have to answer the questions based on the audio clip.

PICK AND SPELL:

The student has to pick and spell maximum number of words within the allotted time.



The State level and the National Championship have the same written and oral rounds.

E.g. HUGE + GUN + EGO Ans: ENOUGH

Two words will be given. By changing one letter at a time, the first word should transform into the second word.

E.g. CURE - BOLD Ans: CURE → CURD → CORD → COLD → BOLD
